As a freelance journalist, she prefers to look at the bigger picture in penning impactful long-form features and commentaries on an

She is also currently producing “The Questions 100” (#HC100Q) a multi-media series in which she is interviewing 100 millennials of color from London to New York City. Her goal is to amplify their voices and diversify their identities in media. View the series here.
“The Questions 100” is part of Whaley’s brand Hearts Converse, a safe spaces for millennials of color to BE. Since 2010, Whaley has edited the website featuring young adult’s views on relationships, life and culture. Additionally she organizes discussion circles for her audience to break down similar topics in an in-person setting.
As part of the Millennial Train Project‘s Class of 2016, Whaley participated in a cross-country journey with 24 fellow change-makers during a transformative fellowship and used the time to also interview new subjects for her series.
Whaley spent four months abroad in 2016. She shares her travel while black tips and experiences through her blog series #BKtotheWorld. Clicking the hashtag on Instagram uncovers colorful and rich photos and stories from her trip.
From 2013 to 2016, she worked as a reporter for BET.com‘s national news section. She wrote daily news content from trending stories to more in-depth features.
She also contributed music stories to TheDrop.fm, a new site offering the latest news in hip-hop and R&B. Her posts cover daily news, music reviews, artist interviews, concert write-ups and urban culture trend lists. Additionally Whaley has bylines for AOL Music’s The Boombox, Ebony.com, VIBE and others.
Throughout her career, she has interviewed and written feature stories on a plethora of music’s biggest artists including Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Sean Paul, Lecrae, Big K.R.I.T., Ice T, RZA, Kendrick Lamar, Bridget Kelly and a long-list of others.
