On March 8, Hearts Converse hosted the first “KICKBACK” conversation event at The OG Studios in Brooklyn, New York. View the event recap. The idea for this type of function was on my heart for at least three or four years. I finally decided to just jump in and take it all the way. I couldn’t wait any further. I wanted to make it happen once and for all.
Everyone was very engaging, respectful and added unique perspectives. I believe everyone left with a new understanding of the people around them.

Participants engaged in an in-depth conversation about relationships, life and culture. Hearts Converse’s founder Natelegé Whaley moderated the discussion. The three questions asked during the evening were:
1) Would you rather be single for the rest of your life or settle for just okay?
2) Have you ever felt you had to compromise your culture to fit into mainstream society?
3) Are Black institutions still needed in society, when many people have broken the glass ceilings in many industries? Why or why not?
Thank you to everyone who came out to the first one!
